“Tom worked with me as a
designer on the Morris Performing Arts Center. It was a demanding and
complex renovation project, with intricacies and subtleties that would
have greatly challenged a much more experienced designer. From the
very start, I saw a design talent and maturity level in Tom that was
beyond his years. Along with his commitment to the design process with
hard work, and his constant dedication to design integrity. Tom gave a
full measure toward the ultimate success of the project. He is a very
gifted and talented architect, without bravura or self-promotion, and
an absolute dedication to the art and craft of his chosen profession”

“No matter the
circumstance, be it design, production, presentations, or the menial
tasks that we all took part in, Tom’s attitude was always one of
confidence and steadfastness. That “bring it on” demeanor helped buoy
and inspire Ed and me as well as the rest of the staff. It helped all
of us carry on with our disparate responsibilities with the knowledge
that Tom would accomplish what was asked - and more.”

“Tom's design sensitivity
to the historic architectural fabric is evident in the seamless
integration of the new 25m swimming pool. He guided the board of

moving forward into the future.”

“In my capacity as Vice
President-Design at Smith Group, I have witnessed Tom’s design passion
and have come to respect his capabilities. Tom and I collaborated
within a larger design team to create concepts of a residential
development in Detroit. His concern, knowledge and expertise regarding
urban and historic preservation issues were influential in the
resolution of our proposed schemes. Tom displayed a conscientious work
attitude and demonstrated a passion for architecture and design.”

“Tom's experience and
ability to think on multiple planes was
invaluable as we created a practical new vision of the Club's
future activities and role in the region's society. What an asset it
has been to have Tom's participation to help us set the right
architectural direction for the DYC, simultaneously considering
bricks and mortar, practical utilization and historic preservation.”

“The project from the
onset was an unbelievable prospect. This project was complicated, and
was of necessity, synergist among the players (the “Team”) from the
start. The underlying issues to be resolved included knitting together
5 different historic buildings, all at different levels, and in a
variety of conditions. Created, against all odds, were bright, airy,
modern spaces, and a stunning new primary entrance, that all integrate
in a most sensitive fashion with their historic counterparts. The
creative solutions that came from Tom were clearly award-winning and
are eminently functional. One of the many challenges was
finances, this drove all decisions, but with an underlying theme that
we still wanted to do the job 'correctly'; this was to be a “50 year
project.” Tom carried this factor through every facet of the project
and we finished on time and in budget. In communicating some dramatic
changes to the structures, Tom (the consummate 'teacher') was able to
prepare careful conceptual arguments and renderings to assure everyone
certain access issues had a unique solution, but that it would truly
be done in a manner that was respectful of the past. Throughout our
entire relationship the process was always magical, and the results
are incomparable .”
