Nestled in a small town approximately 35 miles northeast of Grand Rapids, the library is a cultural focal point for the people of Belding and its surrounding communities. The library was a gift to the city from Alvah Belding, whose father and uncle owned silk mills for which the city was famous. Built in 1918, the building is a fine example of Greek Classical Design. In 1999, after careful analysis of the buildings existing condition and its need for more space, it was determined that a 6,200sf addition would be developed. The original exterior of the building is Indiana limestone with a green tile roof. Reflective of the original historic structure, the addition was designed to blend with, but not mimic the original design. In order to visually lighten the mass of the addition, a glazing curtain wall system was purposely placed along the river. The interior planning opens the building up to the incredible river views. The Belding Library is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
