The Gabriel Richard Building is a historic ten story building located in downtown Detroit at the prominent intersection of Washington Boulevard and Michigan Avenue near Capitol Park and the Financial District. It was designed by prominent Chicago firm Marshall and Fox as a furniture department store and was completed in 1915. The previous tenant was the Archdiocese of Detroit who occupied the building for around 50 years until they relocated in 2013. The adaptive reuse of the vacant building included 123 apartments and is a significant development in the revitalization of the Washington Boulevard Historic District in downtown Detroit. The attractive terracotta exterior will be restored and maintained. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the project will receive Federal Historic Tax Credits.
