The historic station built in 1939 is located in downtown Wyandotte. Completed in 2016, the restoration master plan redirected the city from thinking a new building was required in order to provide modern services to the community. The evaluation process concluded that interior and exterior restoration of the building was feasible and would provide the best value for the community. The small first floor additions fulfilled critical needs that were lacking, including an improved public entry, ADA access, and storage areas for firefighting gear. Second floor changes included shifting from large communal dorm style sleeping areas and bathrooms to partitioned sleeping areas and individual shower and toilet compartments which increases privacy and provides a gender-neutral inclusive environment. Exterior improvements include new historically accurate windows, new bi-fold apparatus bay doors, significant masonry tuckpointing, and new roofing. The site was modified to provide 360 degree access for truck and public parking adjacent to the main entry.
