The Holden Block redevelopment is a single-story complex consisting of five different buildings totaling approximately 17,000gsf. The complex was constructed in phases between 1920 and 1930 and originally contained everything used in the most modern machine shop of the day. The re-purposed building will contain maker spaces, retail space, and a restaurant/bar. Interior spaces are connected by a common corridor with skylights, common bathrooms, and community space. The complex of buildings required new roofing, windows, masonry stabilization, mechanical and electrical systems, and interior finishes. The exterior site development included new sidewalks, driveways, lighting, and a “beer garden” for large gatherings. The project is viewed as a catalyst for other developments in the neighborhood south of Henry Ford Hospital.
