The 17 acre site, located on the southern side of Belle Isle and at the foot of the McArthur Bridge, is a central location for the Great Lakes and surrounding region. The campus master plan preserves the historic Detroit Boat Club structure, the 50 meter outdoor swimming pool, and marina. Additional campus buildings include a 500 student high school; a student activities building that includes a gymnasium, natatorium, fitness center, and student union; and four co-ed dormitories. Educational programming includes a school for the culinary arts, Great Lakes navigation, and engine repair. The focus of efforts was twofold - maintaining the architectural integrity of the historic boat club building and site and providing efficient, functional space that can be used daily by students, faculty, and visitors.
